The 910 Group, in two posts — “There is no dog but Rufus and The Open Society — begin the work of using 5GW theory to defend America in this Long War

What happens when access to the avenues of speech are closed, or when a small group or an individual control those avenues? We know what happens. Horizons narrow, flexibility dies and robustness wanes. The organization (or society) becomes an easy target for 4GW or 5GW attack.

What makes The 910 Group different from all the other anti-jihad organizations? That question was asked here once in one of the comments. One of the answers is this blog, where the gadfly and the rabble become part of the discussion. It’s the rare and exceptional organization that takes this step right from the start.

Along the way, they link to tdaxp, Winds of Change, ZenPundit, as well as Plato and Socrates.

Dan of TDAXP introduced us to the 910 Group  — “5GW and the Anti-Jihad” — which led to an interesting exchange that has now expanded into a kind of open-source exploration of ways the Lebanese people can fight the threat… Read More

Apparently named for the day before the attacks on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon this looks to be an attempt to create an open source anti-jihadi movement. If that will work or not I do not know but it might be worth a bit of watching. Another thing that I find interesting is this 910 group is anti-jihadist but seem to view the world in a pro-islamic or at the very least islamic-friendly way.

From what I can tell they seem to be a bit confused about the difference between 4GW and 5GW but noting the Global Guerilla links that doesn’t surprise me.

I want to invite the contributors to this blog to join me in a discussion I’m organizing with Lebanese bloggers and activists to examine the 4gw threat that Hizbollah represents to the Lebanese state and, hopefully, come up with countermeasures that might be implemented by people on the ground in Lebanon..

If you think I’m confused about the definitions of 4gw and 5gw that’s ok. I’m not interested in pushing my own ideas here.

If any of you is interested, please rsvp me at cntrtrst [at] yahoo [dot] com or by leaving a comment on the blog. You’re welcome to invite others who may be interested as well

When I hear back from enough people I’ll start the discussion with a brief post.

thanks

Abu Nopal,

That sounds like a great project! If you build the post, I’ll come — and offer whatever thoughts I can from a 5GWish perspective!

to examine the 4gw threat that Hizbollah represents to the Lebanese state and, hopefully, come up with countermeasures that might be implemented by people on the ground in Lebanon..

I once suggested how a hidden 5GW force might go about defeating a fuzzy 4GW force in a post called “Initiating 5GW”; here’s the main excerpt:

So, then, how could a hidden 5GW force defeat a fuzzy 4GW force? Influence it to fight another force, one it already despises — and, preferably, one it cannot defeat. Or, introduce dispute within it, of the sort that would paralyze its activities, create massive amounts of in-fighting. Or, befriend it; give it real accomplishments (perhaps by surreptitiously influencing other parties who can give them these) which, nonetheless, lead to final outcomes quite different than it originally intended. Because a 4GW force tends to be decentralized, dependent on local actors and local activities, focus on influencing them. Do not try to destroy the 4GW force; focus on changing it.

The type of support Hizbollah already enjoys, in combination with its size and organization, would make destroying it nearly impossible, especially through a grass-roots level of “people on the ground in Lebanon.” Plus, a 4GW effort in response to Hizbollah might prove difficult, given how entrench Hizbollah is (but not impossible, perhaps.) So rather than destroying it, I would focus on changing it; but this would not be an upfront and transparent attempt, because such transparent maneuvers are sure to be fought and to inspire backlash! You should know that, if changing it would be the focus, this would mean that Hizbollah would continue to exist, but exist changed.

Perhaps a more diverse and involved discussion as you are suggesting would lead to better specifics for how this could be accomplished on the ground level in Lebanon.
