Hmmm. Had it posted there, then thought it had enough of a 5GW spin to put it here.

I think It is time to load some Sex Pistol and P.I.L. back onto my iPod again.

When I post things like this, I wonder: Am I out-of-bounds? (For the conventional xGW and mil-theory crowd/topic.)

I’m vaguely and circumlocutorily approaching a vague fingertip-feeling sort of thing concerning the way that the future emerges in artistic enterprises first or perhaps well before the thinking begins to be synthesized by theorist such as ourselves. Artists may be the most accomplished, or at least the most experienced, horizontal thinkers on the planet — with the possible exception of comedians (who incidentally might think they are, and may be, artists.)

So artists might be canaries-in-the-mine; but the nature of their enterprises may also sometimes lead down dead-ends, mixing some of the prescience with too-broad or too-vague fingertip feelings; so that the output is not quite as useful as a systematized study (of their art and other things) made by theorists such as ourselves!

Interesting video. I suspect many artists might think a tad too horizontally. Or, at least, embrace idealism in such a fervent fashion that it blinds them to possible realities. In some respects I suppose the artist is the cognitive opposite of the theorist as the former places heavy concentration on decision and action while the latter seems to focus on observation and orientation.

—This is interesting, something worth exploring fully. (Of course, we’re talking archetypes. I’d bet there is a lot of crossover and special individual cases.)
